About Ixtapa
Ixtapa, Mexico Resorts
This upscale and quiet resort destination of Ixtapa is home to only a thousand people, located just outside Zihautanejo (see-wah-tah-NAY-ho), a town of over 50,000. Engineered for tourism after Cancun was conceived, the area of Ixtapa is not as densely built as Cancun or Acapulco. There is a more up market appeal to this area, noted for good golf and a quiet setting.
Ixtapa Beaches
Attractive beaches are available at most hotels, although there is a strong undertow that can limit swimming. Most hotels, constructed in the late 1980s along this small strip, are of good quality with excellent facilities. A quiet stroll down Fisherman's walk is a popular past time, where small local artisan shops and open-air restaurants line the promenade. Nightlife of Ixtapa is low key, and primarily restricted to the hotels. Restaurants are of good quality and selection, in particular the hillside Kon Tiki restaurant in Zihautanejo gives patrons a great sunset view. Two quality golf courses at either end of the bay are a primary attraction for many visitors to this area.
