About Lake Chapala
Lake Chapala, Mexico
The Lake Chapala region of Jalisco, Mexico, with its wonderful climate and large base of ex-patriat residents, has become a very desirable place for retirees.
Embedded in the central part of the state, Chapala is a pre-Hispanic settlement dating back to sometime in the XII century A.D. Today, Lake Chapala is only 20 minutes away from the Guadalajara International Airport.
Lake Chapala Recreation
Recreation possibilities are many, including water skiing, sailing, and regattas organized by the local Yacht Club. As well, numerous triathlon contests are held in the area.
There are two islands in the lake. The largest, the Isle of Scorpions directly in front of the town of Chapala, where, besides the beautiful natural scenery, one can enjoy delicious Mexican cuisine. The other is the Island of Mezcala, facing the town of the same name, eastwards from Chapala, and where the ruins can still be seen.
Lake Chapala Retirement
Among the local important festivities is the very popular, Carnival, most often held in February.
Chapala is a great place for a Sunday afternoon stroll along the central park, checking out all the Mexican tourists from Guadalajara. People from Guadalajara come to Lake Chapala for the weekend or just for dinner on the lake. And of course, the world's most perfect climate.
