American citizens purchasing a home in Mexico or any country for that matter- need the best of professional help and processing by people who can be trusted, who know what they are doing and who have honest and reliable contacts. Without this formula for success almost anything can happen and probably has over the years.
When my wife and I decided to move to San Miguel de Allende in central colonial Mexico, and decided to take out a mortgage on the home and property, as part of our strategy, we contacted Finance North America in San Diego California. Finance North America specializes in mortgages in Mexico , for American citizens, and from the beginning we got expert and honest advice (which was carefully confirmed and collaborated by both our real estate representative in San Miguel, and that of the seller).
Mexican law and real estate processes are somewhat different than those of the US , Without Finance North America's help; the process simply would have been close to impossible and very uncertain- to say the least. One of their account managers, a gentleman named Lawrence Dewan was there for us from the beginning and without his advice and counseling I am not sure things would have gone as smoothly and as confidently as they did. There is a lot of paperwork, emails, telephone calls, more paperwork, more emails and more telephone calls. Whenever I needed answers, instructions, advice etc throughout the process, Mr. Dewan could be counted on.

When my wife and I decided to purchase our $2 million dream vacation home in Puerto Vallarta we were at a loss as to where to begin with respect to how to purchase the property and arrange for financing. I interviewed several finance brokers in the United States and Mexico. It was evident that a lot of brokers were trying to break into a new field of opportunity. I quickly learned that the procedures would be complicated and cumbersome. Also, it was made clear to me that financing in Mexico was still in the experimental stage. I ultimately decided to have Christian Alvarez of Finance North America handle the transaction. From the very beginning of our relationship it was obvious that Christian was extraordinarily qualified to the job. He provided a "no non-sense" approach which far surpassed the dozen other brokers we interviewed. Notwithstanding, Christian believed that we would be able to secure financing within 6 weeks of application.
To our delight, Christian performed as represented. In fact, when the seller was not able to close as expected due to her failure to provide certain documents Christian and his team went to work to immediately find the root of the problem and solve it.
